The Bitter Taste Of Failure

Talli tore off a chunk of the bread loaf, leaving the rest with Baugh and going to find a quiet place to eat. She had told her brother that she was going to patrol the area, but really she just felt horrible. A sick feeling sat in the pit of her stomach, a feeling that she couldn't shake. She couldn't let her brother see her like this, he'd get all worried, and that was really the last thing she needed rigt now.

Once she was alone, presumably, she sat, hidden betwixt some crates. She sighed to herself before taking a bite of the bread in her grasp.
Now, any other wyngro would probably just taste bread, but not Talli, not tonight.
This loaf in particular tasted bitter. Not because the bread itself was, there was more to it than that.
 
She bit into the bread again, but she just felt worse and worse as she consumed the horid substance.
'You failed.'
The words echoed in the back of her mind. Her own thoughts stinging more than any wound she had gotten in a fight with another wyngro.
'You failed him, you can't even get enough food without taking the pity offerings from a pathetic begger. YOU are the pathetic one.'

Tears began to roll down her face as she took another bite of the bread to muffle her own sobs.
The thoughts kept consuming her mind, coming at her like punches she couldn't dodge.
She felt like she might throw up all this pity bread that she was consuming, and soon she couldn't even take it anymore.

She threw the remainder of the loaf away from her. A waste for sure, but she didn't dare continue to eat this terrible reminder of how she was failing. 

The wyngling laid down on the ground, burying her face in her arms.
She couldn't fail him.
She had to do better.
She couldn't avoid Russell forever.
Maybe she'd take Baugh with her to 'collect' some supplies tomorrow, she really could use the extra help carrying. Maybe they'd be able to get more supplies like this, so they wouldn't have to steal as often.
